Retargeting Vs. Remarketing

Retargeting-vs.-remarketing

Often times, people hear about remarketing and assume it’s the same strategy as retargeting. Although these strategies are extremely similar, there are important differences. In this article, we are going to go over the key differences between these two marketing strategies.

Retargeting

Retargeting is a digital marketing strategy that is used to increase engagement with a brand’s website. It takes place when a brand serves advertisements to customers on external websites. This strategy is an innovative marketing tool and many different brands use it in their marketing efforts. It is a powerful strategy, as the main goal is to re-engage your consumers.

There are multiple reasons why a consumer may leave a company’s website without purchasing anything. This is when retargeting first begins. After the visitor leaves your website without buying anything. They will start to see advertisements for the brand on other websites they visit. These advertisements may be specific to the products they were browsing, or they may be general advertisements of the brand’s website.

Remarketing

Remarketing is a similar digital marketing strategy. The end goal is the same as retargeting. By using this strategy, the main purpose is to re-engage consumers after they leave the brand’s website without making a purchase.

Though, the main difference in this strategy is that remarketing is done through email connection. For example, an email that may be sent is a reminder that the consumer left their cart without purchasing. The emails sent through remarketing usually follow the actions that the consumer took on the website. If the email is not regarding their shopping cart, it could also be about an item they liked.

Remarketing is just as effective as retargeting. This is because email marketing has such a large reach. Re-engaging consumers through email allows you to reach so many different consumers. You are also reaching them in a direct and personal way. This may further convince them to make a purchase.

One of the best ways to get a consumer to make a purchase is to get them to trust you. As mentioned in previous articles, one way to gain trust is to display and ad to your consumers multiple times. This will get your name in their heads. Remarketing could help you gain the trust of your consumers faster than you can through retargeting. This is because the reminders that you are sending are more personal. Email marketing is a form of direct marketing.

Conclusion

Both of these marketing strategies can be extremely effective. Before choosing which of the two you want to utilize, recognize your goals. Though both retargeting and remarketing generate similar results, it is helpful to know exactly what you want to accomplish. For example, if you are aiming to increase brand awareness, it would probably be more efficient to choose retargeting.

This is because your advertisements will be seen on social media platforms and other websites. This is a more open form of marketing, whereas remarketing would be more of a direct message between you and one of your consumers. There is less of a chance that other consumers will notice those advertisements because it is a direct email.

Either way, both of these strategies are helpful in re-engaging consumers and directing them to make a purchase.
